Come Thou long expected Jesus Born to set Thy people free From our fears and sins release us Let us find our rest in Thee Israel’s strength and consolation Hope of all the earth Thou art Dear Desire of every nation Joy of every longing heart Born Thy people to deliver Born a child and yet a king Born to reign in us forever Now Thy gracious kingdom bring By Thine own eternal spirit Rule in all our hearts alone By Thine all sufficient merit Raise us to Thy glorious throne

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone; snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow, in the bleak midwinter, long ago. Heaven cannot hold him, nor earth sustain; heav'n and earth shall flee away when he comes to reign; in the bleak midwinter a stable place sufficed the Lord God almighty, Jesus Christ. What can I give him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd I would bring a lamb; if I were a wise man I would do my part; yet what I can I give him - give my heart.

Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born! While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night, behold, throughout the heavens there shone a holy light. Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born! The shepherds feared and trembled when, lo, above the earth rang out the angel chorus that hailed our Savior’s birth. Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born! Down in a lonely manger the humble Christ was born; and God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn. Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere; Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!

Silver Bells 03:11
City sidewalks busy sidewalks  Dressed in Holiday style  In the air there's a feeling of Christmas  Children laughing people passing  Meeting smile after smile  And on every street corner you hear    Silver bells (silver bells), silver bells  It's Christmas time in the city  Ring-a-ling hear them ring  Soon it will be Christmas day    Strings of street lights even stop lights Blink a bright red and green  As the shoppers run home with their treasures  Hear the snow crunch see the kids bunch  This is Santa's big scene  And above all the bustle you hear Silver bells (silver bells), silver bells  It's Christmas time in the city  Ring-a-ling hear them ring  Soon it will be Christmas day

Have yourself a merry little Christmas Let your heart be light From now on, our troubles will be out of sight Have yourself a merry little Christmas Make the Yuletide gay From now on, our troubles will be miles away Here were are as in olden days happy golden days of yore Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more Through the years we all will be together If the Fates allow Hang a shining star upon the highest bough And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Silent Night 03:30
Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace Silent night, holy night, shepherds quake at the sight glories stream from heaven afar heavenly hosts sing alleluia Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love’s pure light Radiant beams from your holy face, With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord at thy birth, Jesus, Lord at thy birth

about

One evening in October, after a year of endless roads, we finally came home. We remembered that we really liked this place where our furniture had gathered dust for the greater part of 2011. We wanted to celebrate being home, so we called our nearby friends and family, put an order in for Spaten Dunkel at Surdyk’s, prepared a table of tasty morsels and worked up a few Christmas songs. This recording is from that evening in our living room and a few other nights in November. It is, by far, the quickest project we’ve ever produced, and we are glad to say that what it lacks in production (there just wasn’t time for the 27 Ebow parts Joel would have liked to add, and the...) it makes up for in emotion. It’s our hope that this music finds you with a steaming cup of cider in hand and wrapped up in something (or someone) warm, that these tunes help bring you home, if only for a moment between endless roads.

Peace to you this Christmas.
Under the Mercy,
Aimée & Joel

Special thanks goes to Martin Kretzmann for lending us his truly wonderful Kretzmann Acoustic Guitar. It’s part of what you’re listening to on this recording. You can find out more about the instruments Martin is making at kretzmannguitars.com.

Photos were taken by our friend, musician, and photographer Micah Taylor. More at micahtaylor.com. This project would not have been possible without the speedy work of our friends at Noiseland Industries. They are the best folks in the duplication business: noiseland.com.

about

Tangled Blue Minneapolis, Minnesota

Since June of 2000, Aimee and Joel have been making music together. Their first CD was completed in 2003. Recorded at a farm house in Wisconsin, it is a caffeinated, folk-rock blend of songs that have shown their durability as the duo traveled with them over 500,000 miles of highways. With a new home in Minneapolis, Tangled Blue recorded "Advent" in 2008 and will finish a third project this year. ... more
